The U.S. Supreme Court has distributed five cases for conference on May 16, including two Second Amendment Foundation cases challenging bans on "assault weapons" and magazine capacity in Illinois and Maryland. The cases named Harrel v. Raoul and Bianchi v. Frosh, along with Gun Owners of America v. Raoul, Caleb Barnett v. Raoul, and Javier Herrera v. Raoul, were highlighted by SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut and SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb.

Kraut expressed hope that the Supreme Court would grant cert for these cases, stating, "It is time for the Supreme Court to confirm that these modern firearms are in fact protected by the Second Amendment." Gottlieb also shared optimism, noting that the cases could signal the Court's readiness to consider challenges to bans on popular firearms and magazines, emphasizing the widespread ownership of these firearms by law-abiding citizens.

In the words of Kraut, "Ninety-eight percent of the people in this country are decent, hardworking, honest Americans. It’s the other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But then, we elected them." He also criticized those who oppose gun rights, saying, "The right of the criminal to rip you off, rape and kill you shall not be infringed."

The importance of self-protection was highlighted by a declaration quoted in the article, "I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand." Additionally, the sentiment of standing firm for one's rights was expressed, "You may find me one day dead in a ditch somewhere. But by God, you’ll find me in a pile of brass."

The article concludes with various quotes emphasizing the significance of the Second Amendment and the need for individuals to defend themselves. The distribution of these cases for conference indicates a potential milestone in the ongoing debate surrounding gun rights and regulations in the United States.
